Plain Truth

I have always always always loved to read. Ever since I was small I have pretty much eaten books. Some of my favourite books are The Hunger Games Trilogy, Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks and so many more I can’t even list them! I am not a fan of Harry Potter, and I’ve never/don’t really want to read Twilight.

During school I HATED it when we had to analyse books, I just wanted to read them and enjoy them.. or not. I am not going to analyse books here.. I’m just going to write what I think about the book to share with my family and friends. I’ve recently rediscovered my love for the Library (after 2 years of religiously using my Kindle). I’m forever bugging people on facebook for book recommendations so I thought why not start a blog about the books (that I am mostly walking in to the library and picking up randomly) that I am reading. I don't feel I can really call this a review as I don't have any qualifications or special knowledge that makes me a reviewer... It’s just what a bookworm thinks.

The most recent book I have read is Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. I am a huge fan of hers (apart from My Sisters Keeper, I just can't get in to that) however I do have to spread her books out as too many all in one go can be a little heavy.

Plain Truth centres around Katie Fisher, an Amish teenager who appears to have given birth to a child out of Wedlock. Typical city girl Ellie Hathaway ends up not only defending Katie, but living with her too.

One of the reasons that I picked this book up is that (weirdly maybe) I have always found Amish culture quite interesting. I really enjoyed reading how the lives of an Amish girl and an ‘English’ woman could come together and intertwine. It’s definitely a book that keeps you wanting to read, there’s a lot revealed as you go along.. you start off like Ellie the lawyer knowing absolutely nothing about Katie’s situation or her way of life, but as the book develops you start to learn a lot.

I don’t tend to like endings of books.. I just don’t really want them to finish. This one was the same.. I always want to know what happens next but maybe I’ll just have to make that up in my head. The book does jump from a flashback, to third person, to first person which does get a bit confusing at times. That aside I did really enjoy reading this book, although I do feel I need to read something lighter now!
